'The Rookery'
Based on The Rookery in Streatham Common, this artwork holds a special place in my heart. It’s a place where I’ve spent a lot of time over the years,
walking through the gardens, chatting with friends on the benches, having picnics in the sunshine and calming my mind by the cascading stream.
In the summer it’s a gloriously vibrant burst of blossoms and scents; in the winter months it’s a secret spot which holds small glimpses of quiet life.
Year-round, the volunteers tend carefully to the flowers and the allotments and it’s a place which never fails to lift my spirits.
I really wanted to take my time and depict The Rookery in a unique way, including as many little ‘easter-eggs’ as possible.
I’ve created it on a beautiful, soft grey, textured paper with simple black and white inks, embellishing it with lots of silver and gold to really make it sparkle.
If you’ve not been before I would highly recommend a visit, and perhaps you can spot some of the landmarks in the picture!
You can order a hand finished giclee print of this artwork this at the shop.
